Synchro Canada has
introduced a new structure for the sport of Synchronized Swimming.
This new structure is based on skill and is intended to eliminate
age as a barrier to competition. It provides a seamless program
for all swimmers, from "cradle to grave".
At MSSA, our programs
begin with Learn to Synchro, and continue to Introduction to
Competition and Performance Development.
Learn to Synchro is
focused on skill acquisition, based on the Star program. Swimmers
are tested at each Star level. Swimmers may remain in this stream
for their whole synchro career. In this stream, swimmers do not
compete and are not ranked against other swimmers.
In order to move to the
Competitive stream, swimmers must have passed Star 3. At this
level, swimmers compete and are ranked against other swimmers at
local, provincial or national meets. The competitive year runs
from January 1 to June 30, and swimmers must be assessed as to
their Star level by December 15 in order to be placed in the
appropriate tier level for competitions.
